8 Mistakes Brides Make When Planning an Outdoor Wedding - Wedding Photographer in Gauteng (www.solodeogloriaphotography.com)

With summer well on it's way, we decided to share a few mistakes brides have made in the past when having their wedding outside. These are just guidelines and tips to help make you and your guests more comfortable.

8 Mistakes Brides Make When Planning an Outdoor Wedding:

  • Not coming up with a back up plan - It might be your dream to have an outdoor wedding, but the weather might not cooperate with you on that dream. So if you do decide to have an outdoor wedding, speak to your venue coordinator and try and have a indoor option available.
  • Getting a cake with regular icing - This might sound silly to you, but regular icing and heat are not friends. So rather opts for a more formal option such as fondant which will hold up really well in the summer heat.
  • Not providing chair covers - This really depends on weather your ceremony and reception will be in the direct sun or in the shade. Keep in mind, chairs without chair covers can get really hot to sit on, especially if the chairs are a dark color.
  • Serving the wrong food - Again the heat will be a factor in this situation. Try to stay away from foods that might spoil or melt in the heat. Seafood or cheese might not be a good option.
  • Wearing the wrong shoes - If you are planning on getting married on a location that requires you to walk a distance, you might want to consider comfort over looks. A beach wedding will not lend itself to heals.
  • Not having enough hydration - A great idea to keep your guests hydrated is to have a ice container with bottled water as a welcome gift with a cute note on it that says "Keep Cool and Enjoy the Ceremony".
  • Starting the ceremony too early - Remember the heat is worst around noon, so maybe consider having your outdoor ceremony at sunset, you then have a cooler ceremony and it will be a bit more romantic.
  • Not providing shelter for your guests - While your having your couple photographs taken, consider having big umbrellas or open tents for your guests while they are enjoying their welcome drinks.

These are just little things to keep in mind when planning your dream outdoor wedding. It will just make you and your guests more comfortable and help that everyone enjoys your special day more.

15 Creative Alternatives To The Formal Wedding Cake - Wedding Photographer in Gauteng (www.solodeogloriaphotography.com)

In the name of creative thinking and making your wedding stand out from the same old. We wanted to give you some out of the box alternatives to the formal wedding cake tradition.

15 Creative Alternatives to the Formal Wedding Cake:

  • Cup Cakes - You might have seen this done before, so for an alternative twist to this idea, why not have one huge cup cake as your wedding cake to cut into, and some different flavored small cup cakes for your guests. You can even add you and your partner's initials to the cup cakes for that something extra.
  • Macaroon Tower - This idea will go well with a colorful themed wedding, or even if you have a pastel color theme.
  • Pies - Get three to four different sized and flavored pies and stack them as you would a tiers cake.
  • Doughnut Tower - Again, you can stack different flavored doughnuts on a tall cake stand.
  • Cake Pops - This is one of the new wedding cake trends, ask your cake vendor about cake lolly pops as a wedding cake substitute.
  • Rise Crispy Tiers - Make big rice crispy tiers to stake as you would your wedding cake, and as decor add thick decorative ribbon around each tier for color.
  • Cheese Wheel Cakes - For a more savory option on the wedding cake alternative, why not go for something completely different such as  cheese wheels. Choose your favorite cheese wheels in different sizes and stake in a wedding cake shape. Add some grapes, crackers, and even wine as decor.
  • Various Sweet Treats - Use something like a 6 tier cascade cake stand to present all the various sweet finger treats you choose.
  • Candy Apple Stakes - This idea will work well for a candy, or more whimsical wedding theme.
  • Chocolate Dipped Strawberries - You can put your chocolate dipped strawberries in small cup cake holder to prevent a mess and for a more formal look.
  • Mini Pavlovas - You can either use small shot glasses or something like cocktail glasses to fill your mini layered pavlovas, then stack them on a three tiers cake stand for presentation.
  • Waffle D.I.Y Table - Again for a more out of the box creative idea, make a Do-It-Yourself waffle table with various toppings.
  • Chocolate Fountain Table - Try to get a 4 - 5 tier chocolate fountain to add height to your chocolate fountain table. Add squire sticks and dippers such as strawberries and marshmallows.
  • Heart Shaped Brownies - You could have a three tier cake stand with different flavored brownies on each tier.
  • Boosi Option - Make use of a glass 3 - 4 tier cake stand to add a bit of elegance. Then add different flavored shooters to each tier. Go for more sweet and desert flavors to stick to the desert theme, and adding colorful flavors with back lighting will make for a stunning decor piece.
